Our school zone

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au. Findmyschool.vic.gov.au hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones.

Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

The Placement Policy gives schools, parents and carers greater clarity and to support consistent and fair decision-making.

The updated policy will come into effect from the start of Term 2, 2023, and will apply to all mid-year transfers and 2024 enrolment applications, unless otherwise specified.

The Placement Policy includes a simplified priority order of placement, which is used to prioritise enrolment applications from outside the school zone. Students living within the school zone have been removed from the priority order as they are guaranteed entry to their local school.

The priority order of placement is:

  • students with a sibling at the same permanent address who is attending the school at the same time
  • all other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.

Students from outside the school zone will no longer be prioritised for enrolment based on curriculum grounds. Enrolment on compassionate grounds remains in the Placement Policy as an overarching consideration.

The Department provides guidance through the School Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.

You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones.

Foundation Transition

The transition process from Kindergarten to Foundation is very important and we believe in working together with parents to ensure that students feel confident and well prepared for school. To make the transition process smooth and successful, Dandenong South Primary School staff and the kindergarten teachers arrange learning activities for the kindergarten children to help them become familiar with their new learning environment. This enables the transition program to be smooth and successful. During Term Four, there are three orientation days for children who have enrolled at our school. These orientation days provide opportunities for children to participate in engaging learning experiences. Parents are also invited to attend an information session. At this session, parents will receive an information pack that will assist them with their child’s first year at school.
